Thanatos Blackness

THANATOPHOBIA  would be an appropriate term to describe the dread fear of what some Jungian psychologists refer to as  'THANATOS BLACKNESS'.

'Thanatos Blackness' finds expression in the dread fear (phobia) of the non-colour 'BLACK.'

In this context, 'blackness' refers to the Total Absence of  ALL LIGHT; and by extension, All Existence. That is, Total 'Non-Being' - including the Total Annihilation our very own being, most commonly signified by the  'non-reality' of  our very own (physical) DEATH.

Here, as in many other places,  LIGHT is the most unambiguous; the most 'literal' and perhaps the most PRIMAL of ALL 'literal' metaphors representing our fundamental BEING; as well as Consciousness Itself.

Later in his life, Sigmund Freud posited two main categories of INSTINCT: (1) 'EROS', or the Life-Instinct, and (2) 'THANATOS" or the 'Death-Instinct; (from the GREEK word for DEATH).
